Play Therapy
Understanding the process and how it can support your child.
What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a research-informed approach that uses play — a child's natural way of communicating — to help them express feelings, process experiences, and develop new coping skills. Through creative media such as sand, art, story and movement, children can safely explore big emotions when words are hard to find.
It can be helpful for anxiety, low mood, confidence, friendships, family changes, bereavement, school worries and much more.
Core principles
- Child-led & non-judgemental
- Respectful, attuned relationships
- Safe boundaries & confidentiality
- Strengths-based and creative
What to Expect
Before sessions begin, we start with a parent/carer consultation to understand your child's story and hopes. Together we make a plan that feels right for your family.
Sessions
- Weekly 45–50 minute sessions in a dedicated playroom
- Gentle, consistent routine tailored to your child
- Regular check-ins with parents/carers (without the child)
Confidentiality
Your child's privacy matters. I share general themes and progress while keeping the child's play content confidential, unless there are safety concerns.
